You will agree with me that the NBA Finals is the most coveted title in the NBA. This is among the most significant sporting events and pits two teams in a best-of-seven duel. The two sides are the winners of the Eastern and Western conferences.
1. Boston Celtics (17)
The Boston Celtics are the most successful franchise in the history of the NBA Finals, boasting 17 titles. They first won the NBA Finals in 1957, before clinching it for eight consecutive times. Recently, the team has been on a dip, but LA Lakers are not going to reach them anytime soon though there is just a single title between the two archrivals.
2. Los Angeles Lakers (16)
Formerly known as Minneapolis Lakers, the Lakers are the second most successful team in the history of the NBA championships with 16 titles after 31 appearances. In two of the finals, Lakers have met Boston, and unfortunately, they lost both to Celtics. While the team is not as dominant as it was in the earlier years, it’s among the best teams in the history of the NBA.
3. Golden State Warriors / Chicago Bulls (6)
At number 3 is a tie between the Golden State Warriors and Chicago Bulls, both winning the coveted title 6 times. While the Warriors had been quiet for a long time, they are a dominant force today, having won three of the last five NBA Finals. For the Bulls, the team dominated the competition from 1991, clinching three in a row, and again from 1996, taking three championships consecutively.
Boston Celtics, LA Lakers, Chicago Bulls, and Golden State Warriors are the most successful teams when it comes to the NBA Finals. Other worthy mentions include San Antonio Spurs with five titles, and Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat and Philadephia 76ers with three apiece. Houston Rockets and New York Knicks close the list with 2 NBA championships each.
