After Kyrie Irving protested against the restart of the NBA, a group of players was gathered with greater influence to accomplish the same purpose.
NBA is expected to restart on July 30 in Orlando. This is a plan that was approved by the NBA leadership as well as the NBPA player association.
However, two things arose that affected this plan. First, the number of COVID-19 infections is showing signs of increasing in Orlando, Florida. The second is the anti-racist movement “Black Lives Matter” which is supported by the majority of NBA players.
With these things, a group of players who are not supposed to really support the NBA reboot, are led by Kyrie Irving (Brooklyn Nets) and Avery Bradley (Los Angeles Lakers).
Kyrie Irving and Avery Bradley
According to ESPN journalists Adrian Wojnarowski and Malika Andrews, Irving and Bradley formed a league of players to call on the NBA to reconsider the restart of the season.
In addition, many players worry that the return of the NBA is unreasonable when the COVID-19 pandemic is still breaking out, especially the positive cases in Florida are starting to rise. Some other players worry about injury and demand some form of insurance.
Many concerns have been addressed by the league of players, including injuries and COVID-19
According to information from Wojnarowski and ESPN, up to now, the number of players who do not want to play is not enough to affect the NBA’s restart plan. However, the executive board still wants to solve the problems with the players. This is in order to create the most moderate environment.
For example, if a player does not want to play, the NBA will sit back. They will answer questions and persuade the player to board a flight to Orlando.
Moreover, it is very important for players to form a group with these same requirements. It helps the tournament to better understand the minds of the athletes. They are always need to be safe in terms of health and mental health.
In the immediate future, NBA will listen to all requests before giving answers and specific solutions.
